How did you get your PSC nickname?
My parents.....and the number 1
What is your real name and age?
Roger Hendrix, 32
Where are you from and what do you like best about being there?
Kent, WA (Seattle suburb). I like the many skate parks.
What do you do to keep the bills paid?
I build 777's for Boeing.
What do you do in your spare time?
Play with my daughter, skydiving, riding superbikes, play guitar, play drums, road trips.
How did you find PSC, and what do you like most about the site?
I Googled the word "photoshop" and eventually stumbled across it. I like that this site allows GIF animations as entries.
If you could change one thing at PSC, what would it be and why?
Maybe separate contests for animations and source only chops?
Is there any other information about you would like to pass on?
The gas station down the street from my house gives away free hot dogs on Thursdays.
How many hours per week do you spend on PSC?
Varies a lot - lol!
What other sites, not Photoshop related, do you like to surf?
You mean there are other websites??
What tools do you use to chop?
Imagination
What gets your creative juices flowing, how do you create a masterpiece?
I try to incorporate at least one new trick/gimmick/effect into every picture/animation.
What inspires you?
Random pop culture, other people who create unique ideas in their entries, winning, loosing, but most of all.........when people leave a comment when they vote.
Do you have a system? Does a chop have to be done a certain way following steps or are you a messy chopper and just go with the flow?
If I have a clear idea of what I want to do at the start, then I'm organized. If I start out without a clue about what I'm going to make, then sloppy and messy.
What style of chop do you prefer to create?
Photo-realistic first person view animations.
Filters, brushes and techniques: Which do you use, and not use, and why?
I use: motion blur, exposure settings, polygonic lasso tool, animation window.
I don't use: all of the tools that I still don't know exist - lol!
When do you know that you have it just right, or is it constant changes up until, or after, you post?
I'm never finished because they're never perfect. I don't like to update an entry once the contest is started.
What is the limit to what you will chop?
Limits?? What are those?
Are there any tips and/or tricks that you would like to pass along to less experienced choppers?
Be extremely patient with yourself, ask dumb questions, push yourself to do something that is "too hard",.....and don't ever complain about or suggest improvements to the voting system in the forums ;)
What is your favorite type of source image, and why?
My favorite source image is the kind that gives me an instant burst of creativity.
There is often talk about how the source is used and to what extent it should be. What are your views on all sources, outside source use and animations?
As long as the source image is in your entry, then you're playing by the rules. However, if it isn't used in a clever or original way.....no votes.
What is your preferred resource for outside source images?
Google image search.
In your opinion what makes a good chop?
When humor, originality, and microscopic details come together.
Do you have a system to get things started?
In my animations, I arrange a rough animation of the base layer(s) to establish movement. After the mechanics of movement are right, I focus on fine-tuning the blending of the layers to each other and the background. Next, I add special effects and fine-tune the frame timing. Lastly, I play with "save for web and devices" adjustments to get the highest quality GIF animation possible within the 512kb allowance.
Have you ever completed a chop and then decided not to enter it in the contest? If so, why?
Yes. Because it sucked.
After you finish your chop do you just post it or seek opinions of family and/or fellow choppers first?
Post it!
If some one finds a fault in your work do you change it or stay with what you posted?
Take mental notes and change it!
What qualities do you look for when deciding to vote on a chop?
Originality, creativity, humor, creepiness, realism.
Some member prefer not to vote for filtered chops or animations. Is there any particular style/type of chop you won't vote for?
There's no particular type of chop that I won't vote for. All I can say is that I vote for pictures that catch my eye/attention, tell a story, or are skillfully executed.
Time is always a factor, how much time do you spend on a chop and how much time is too much?
No time is too much. Average time spent on animations? Hmmm,...3-5 hours.
We all love to get votes. Now are you a constant vote checker or do you just let it go and check once a day? (be honest)
Constant - LOL!
What chop of yours did not do as well as you expected?
Most of my early entries.
What do you consider your best chop so far?
Probably my "Chop Shop" GIF.
What do you consider your worst chop so far?
My "Ugly Smart Car" entry.
Who is your favorite chopper out there and why?
I can't decide :/
What do you NOT like to see in a chop, and why not?
Layers that are poorly cut out.
What is the best chop of all time?
My next one.
Do you have any other PSC related comments to add?
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........no.
