I didn't use shiftkey, for I wanted a wild burst..hence used up-arrow key.

Both in Photoshop and Illustrator the shift key has many uses.
This is my fav.
If a pighead is drawn and it tends to grow out of proportion I can constrain it with shift key.

mason, no custom brushes. I used selection tool to define the the features in different layers (different feather)...then color accordingly, followed by sequences of add noise, different blurs,repeat ...
