Hi, all! I know this sounds silly, but Mr. Caf and I don't quite agree on how to spell our new daughter's nickname. We decided to seek out a consensus. It would be nice if our daughter didn't have to constantly correct people her entire life. Anyway, her name is Evelyn. Her nickname, what we've been calling her, is pronounced starting with a short e (like Evelyn) rather than a long e (like our dear friend Eve). Mr. Caf spells it "Evie." I had been spelling it "Evvy," but could also do "Evvie." What are your opinions on these three spellings? Thanks!

change her first name to "Eeevelyn!"
Between the 3, I'd go with Evie. Girls will often change their own names/spelling of their names starting sometime in 3rd grade....
Maybe her preference will lean toward being called Evelyn. What a novel idea!
Can't wait until she's home.

I would choose Evie, it seems that it goes with the sound of the name. Evvy to me would sound like Aevvy and Evvie would be simular.
And Evie is little Eve, right?
I hope your girl is groing well?

For me, the natural contraction of Evelyn would be Eve, or I suppose Evie. Mind you I would still probably pronounce this ee~vie.
I don't think there should be too much contradiction between spelling of nicks and names.
Evvie/Evvy look a bit too informal to me, and contradict the correct spelling of Evelyn.
I have a daughter Sophie, who is actually Sophia on her birth certificate....just in case she wants a more sopisticated name when she grows up.

Evie would be "eevee" to my reading. If your playing on the soft "E" in Evelyn then Evvy or Evvie.
Personally I'm gonna call your daughter Espresso.

Now we all know i can't spell for shit....EVIE is the one that looks right.
Why not Lyn' ie.....or Elly....let her personality develope first....then you will get a more natural feeling nickname. Listen to what others call her when talking directly to her....Everyone that speaks to a Baby....leans in an does that Babytalk... ....watch....it's so true.

in argentina they spelled my name favio... they don´t have a V... they have two bs... short b (v) and large b (b), both pronnounced the same... I didn´t know that at the time and spent a long time to understand why they insisted on spelling my name with v when it´s CLEAR (for brazilians, at least) that it´s spelt with b...

Personally...
I like the name "Ev-e-lyn". It's short and simple...just like her mother.
I mean that in a nice way Melissa.
How does that old song go...
"oh my darling...oh my darling...
oh my darling...Ev-e-lyn...
she was so cute and a darling..
she's our darlin....Ev-e-lyn.."
