A few weeks ago I attempted to draw a landscape with a cityview for a contest here.
I kinda liked doing it, so I decided to get deeper into it.
What I mostly do, is take a existing picture, extend the canvas and start drawing.

I know there are some people currently active here who draw theirselfes too. I would be very interested in watching what you came up with.
Feel free to share please Smile

Here are some of mine. The first three are painted in an existing picture.
the 4th one is created from scratch.

I'm new to this... so I know it's not mindblowing work. Any tips are more than welcome.

Photo of a landscape in Thailand.

Photo taken in Normandy last year at Etretat.

Also Normandy

Painted from scratch (originally 4000 x 2000 Pixels)

Your backdrops, instant-kill your depth of field - like - dead.

It's not that the lack of detail does it in, but the flat bases seem to add to the effect of just killing the depth.

The fundamental likeness is there, as in the colours and the feel of the background objects definitely match the foreground, however, the lack of blur and atmospheric adjustment to the tones just seem to flatten out the background.

Also one of your mountain ranges looks like it has the plastic wrap filter on it, even if it hasn't been applied that's just what it looks like.

I prefer using Artrage and Photoshop in tandem with each other when working out a painting project. I don't have anything of my own worthy enough to show, but you can get the general idea of the quality of the results of these two programs by going here:

It was my first painting. I loved it but received less votes. I am posting it here for some critiques

I love smudge painting with Photoshop. I haven't drawn a whole lot from scratch, but have "painted" hundreds of photos. Sadly, most of my works got "lost" when my laptop died. I have to take it to the shop and have them recovered. Grr.... Temporary annoyance, I suppose.

This started as a pencil drawing, then I scanned it and finished it in Photoshop keeping the pencil look.

I'm jealous on your drawing skills, Rey. It's photo-realism almost. Did you learn to draw like that over the years, or have you always been good at it since young age?
Just wondering to see if there's any hope left for me Laughing

Nice works so far. Keep em coming! Cool

I learn every day. Just when you think your good is when you stop trying. Luckily just as I think I'm good, someone comes along and proves that I don't know shit. lol Wink

I quite like your second Normandy drawing kinetic_be.

I have some drawings (tracings) around here somewhere. Will have to take a look and post them.

ReyRey: Yours just blows me away. Awesome.

This is one of my first drawings using bamboo pen, I sketched it in, then painted in ps, finishing off using the oil paint filter
