The Invention of Lying - Photoshop Contest

on Sep 20, 2009 @ 12:29 am, Procyon wrote:  I am unsure of how many of you have heard about the yet to be released movie "The Invention of Lying" starring Ricky Gervais. Well, I was contacted by a fellow named Richard G. who was interested in running a contest on PSC. I thought it was a splendid idea and Richard has been helping me set up a the competition for next Thursday the 24th, as the gala screening for the movie is approaching very soon.

The contest will run a bit differently. Instead of using the votes to determine the winner, Ricky Gervais will be choosing three contest winners. There will also be three wonderful prizes:

1st place gets the gala screening tickets for themselves and a friend in London, UK on October 1st. 2nd and 3rd place will each get The Invention of Lying DVD box sets. There will be one more surprise, which everybody will have to wait for!

For more information about The Invention of Lying http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1058017/ and Ricky Gervais http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0315041/

The trailer of the movie can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_V9b8upG9E

The official site is www.theinventionoflying.co.uk
UK release date: 2nd October
Synopsis: "Imagine a world where everyone can only tell the truth and no one has ever lied. There are no big lies, no small lies, not even white lies. Until one man discovered how... A comedy from award winning liar Ricky Gervais"

IMPORTANT:

The current image for the Thursday the 24th (Towing A Dino, which is really nice btw) will be moved to a different day. I will replace it with the new image on Monday, as that is when I will receive the image for the "The Invention of Lying" contest. Please do not continue to submit further chops until the new image is up.

UPDATE: Image to be chopped: X-Men Origins Wolverine Poster

Well, this is NEWS! ;-)

If I win ( big if ) first place... that means I will be flown to London with all paid and accommodations? I'm planing on winning but I live in Northern California, that's roughly 5359.748 miles. Awesome movie by the way.

Like the movie, heard about it on BBC tv.
Granulated Granulated (Sep 20, 2009 @ 5:08 am)
Richard G. That's gotta be Ricky himself, or someone on a wind-up. It does seem kind of odd that the man himself would do this kind of promotional footwork. Hope it is him though, that would be insane, he's a hero of mine.

Why not open it to all to enter???

I posted the link on my Caf Chocoholic Facebook page and made it an event on my Photoshop Place Facebook page. Pass it on; let's get the word out! :)

What a great contest (and that's no lie). Thanks to Caf for posting these updates on Facebook. It keeps bringing me back. (Now if I can just make the time to chop again!)
Cartoon Contractor Cartoon Contractor (Sep 20, 2009 @ 7:45 pm)
Hmmmmmmm, I wish I was a better chopper! =0) Cool stuff!
Cartoon Contractor Cartoon Contractor (Sep 20, 2009 @ 7:49 pm)
Will it still be an anonymous contest? (I know it doesn't matter because he will pick the winners, I was just wondering!)
Procyon Procyon (Sep 20, 2009 @ 10:28 pm)
The contest will be open to all! Check back tomorrow. The first prize is unrealistic for anybody far from London, but I think there are enough people from the UK on this website.

Nice job proc... this is pretty cool
Procyon Procyon (Sep 21, 2009 @ 3:03 pm)

Am I the only skeptic on this? o_O
Tesore Tesore (Sep 21, 2009 @ 3:28 pm)
No Tofu ;-) We have to chop a chopped image???
Eve Eve (Sep 21, 2009 @ 3:48 pm)
where do we post our images?
bogonet bogonet (Sep 21, 2009 @ 4:01 pm)
What is the aim? A movie poster, considering the special condition of this contest, or anything based on x-men theme??? I assume "all source" is not relevant in this case. Ty
beefhead beefhead (Sep 21, 2009 @ 4:06 pm)
So, anybody can enter but it will be unrealistic for people far from London (or without a passport) to win first prize? Procyon (Sep 20, 2009 @ 10:28 pm) The contest will be open to all!...The first prize is unrealistic for anybody far from London.
Rjamesjr Rjamesjr (Sep 21, 2009 @ 4:06 pm)
im lost.... but thats where i stay lol
Procyon Procyon (Sep 21, 2009 @ 4:19 pm)
I do realize this is not the typical contest. I can't change the prizes, as that those are not chosen by myself. Also I think the picture is not what we all expected, but that's the way it is.
Hagen Hagen (Sep 21, 2009 @ 4:44 pm)
Could you provide us with more information about what we're basically expected to do with that image...? Do we have to work with that one...? Or create something completely different using the same kind of setting...? Thanks for your answer Procyon...!
Tesore Tesore (Sep 21, 2009 @ 4:56 pm)
So this X-men source is instead of the regular contest?
nat_g31 nat_g31 (Sep 21, 2009 @ 6:07 pm)
I was going to try and do something. . . do we have to include the ïnvention of lying"as a theme???? When Xmen came out it kind of threw me for a loop!
Cartoon Contractor Cartoon Contractor (Sep 21, 2009 @ 6:16 pm)
So are we supposed to make a "pun" chop for the new movie based on the X-Men poster? Or did he give you any criteria concerning the chop at all? Or do we just do what ever the hell we want with this source? This is confusing!
Procyon Procyon (Sep 21, 2009 @ 6:50 pm)
make what you feel comfortable making. If you think a "pun" chop will convince the decision maker, then yes. Just remember that this time it won't be photoshop experts that will be selecting your image.
Grefix Grefix (Sep 21, 2009 @ 6:54 pm)
i didn't realize we had experts here oO
Procyon Procyon (Sep 21, 2009 @ 7:10 pm)

spikelmalo spikelmalo (Sep 21, 2009 @ 8:06 pm)
what has to do with X-men The invention of lying? answer please :)
mason4300 mason4300 (Sep 22, 2009 @ 1:14 am)
Who chose the image? This is bizarre...
GhostlyJoe GhostlyJoe (Sep 22, 2009 @ 1:18 am)
That poster image crashes Photoshop for me ... can't select the brush tool or KABOOM! Is it corrupted?
janetdog janetdog (Sep 22, 2009 @ 2:17 am)
Oh Boy! Did you ever see what B3ta did to Virgin and Branson... They have really good lawyers! Now, Who exactly is this Ricky Gervais?
Oscar Oscar (Sep 22, 2009 @ 2:19 am)
so many questions for something so simple... chop and win. That's it. If you live far from London then don't chop for the first prize.
Granulated Granulated (Sep 22, 2009 @ 9:12 am)
this might help.... Worth 1000 are running the same Prize Promotion.. Ever wish movies posters would JUST be honest with us, so that we know what we're getting BEFORE we fork over 11 bucks!? Is “Sex in the City” really “Two Hours of Whiny Women”?
Granulated Granulated (Sep 22, 2009 @ 9:13 am)
Is “Gran Torino” really “A Racist Old Man…who Learns to Love”? How about “The Happening” truly being “The Crappening”? You get the picture!!!
Granulated Granulated (Sep 22, 2009 @ 9:14 am)
..however...I'm at a bit of a loss to apply these 'rules' to The X-Men
Granulated Granulated (Sep 22, 2009 @ 9:18 am)
another thing..why has the source been massively over-sharpened ?
Grefix Grefix (Sep 22, 2009 @ 1:24 pm)
oversharpenend? you're dealing with wolverine! it's supposed to be oversharp :D
st1n3r st1n3r (Sep 23, 2009 @ 12:35 am)
!!! I am Dick Gervais
Eve Eve (Sep 25, 2009 @ 12:22 am)
Stoner...I believe you! ;) I'd say this comp is pretty dismal in terms of votes... I hope this wasn't a waste of ppl's time 'cause the dino source was a good one.
TheShaman TheShaman (Sep 26, 2009 @ 11:28 am)
so 8 votes is good then? LOL!!!
Tommeken Tommeken (Sep 27, 2009 @ 5:28 am)
when and just how do we know who the winner is?
Eve Eve (Sep 27, 2009 @ 6:59 pm)
yeah, Sean, 8 votes in this comp = at least 25 in a "normal" comp. i'm so humiliated.....
Tesore Tesore (Sep 28, 2009 @ 10:39 am)
Proc said: "There will be one more surprise". That will be for the number 4??? Say 'YES', please! ;-)
pakimo pakimo (Sep 28, 2009 @ 1:03 pm)
Tes: The winners isn't choosen by votes. It is judged by the Garvais-team ;-)
Tesore Tesore (Sep 28, 2009 @ 1:13 pm)
Damn.... hahahahaha
Procyon Procyon (Sep 28, 2009 @ 5:43 pm)
I'll keep you posted.
TheShaman TheShaman (Sep 29, 2009 @ 12:57 pm)
any word yet?
Rjamesjr Rjamesjr (Sep 29, 2009 @ 3:02 pm)
And the winners are??????????
pakimo pakimo (Sep 30, 2009 @ 8:58 am)
