Late idea for the contest after experimenting with styles. Fork and Knife are the only externals. Made the woodgrain, plate and syrup. As always constructive criticism welcome and begged for. :-)

need more depth to the plate, and need to high light the syrup to give it a wet look but other than that looks good

yummy. The syrup looks nice, might want to change/add the reflections/highlights around the clock edge to show where the syrup drops around the pancake. And add more lighting to the plate, I'll try to explain via PM

Make the shadow from the plate a little bigger to look like it fell further to the table. I like how you adjusted the shadow for the curve of the tines on the fork. The neck of the fork's shadow could be tweaked. :)

Great job adding the highlights, very realistic. 5 a.m. is pretty early for breakfast ;)

Anyone know why this is so friggin' washed out? Irritating I tells ya! Also, suggestions on how to make the syrup better would be appreciated. I also tried to add a butter pat but failed.

I'd also like to figure out a way to "cut" a chunk out of the clock like it was a pancake. Tips?
volkswes volkswes
hmm.....adjust lightness on woodgrain .......would look better darker
volkswes volkswes
not sure how would be best to cut a chunk out from overhead view without it lookin odd. For cutting a piece out I think a slight angle would be better.

bravo fer experimenting with styles....try playing around with painting some highlights or reflections on the surface of the syrup....think: How would it shine besides the highlights around the beveled edge. :)

Thanks for the tips guys! Edit coming soon...

I looked online for syrup reference shots. but almost everything is an angled shot. The few overhead shots I found are crappy. Would I put the highlites just inside on the areas where the beveled highlites already show?

Ahhhh this is looking soooo much better than it started out! Vokaris really pointed me in some good directions. Plus I finally got my color settings fixed so that what I see in my .psd is what actually gets saved for the web! YEAH! :-D

If I were to do this over I think I'd try to make the knife and fork from the clock parts so that this could be an all-source. Oh well.

D'OH! Forgot to give props to Volkswes for helping too! He pointed me to some good syrup reflection/highlite shots. Thanks Wes!

It looks cool, however, I wasn't sure what was being served for beakdfast until I read your comment about syrup. I would've made some edges of the clock look like pancakes. Did you ever think of that?

@ tadams: yep. I'm up that early almost every day. @EnterAtheenasMind : Yeah I did think of trying to take a chunk out like it was a pancake. But I just never got around to it after messing with the syrup.
