I like what you were going for. Very interesting idea. I would work a bit on lighting though.

Mysterious person #1, thanks for your comment! You seem to be the only one to appreaciate my chop though. Well I don't really see what to do with the lighting to improve it...

Well, one thing would be to have the light interact with the skull cliff. Lighten slightly and add a yellow cast to the cliff from about the nose down. Then darken the right hand cliff to give it depth.

I also like the direction you are aiming for. All light strikes a surface from the same direction. Everything reflects the mood of the light surrounding all objects in your scene. Image-match colour-layer......

The yellow light is just a small lantern, its light cannot act as far as the cliff...

You had said you didn't see what else to do with the lighting. There is nothing that shows how far from the skull rock the boat is, he could be just rounding that point and my suggestions would have given a lot of depth to the image.

YerPalAl, you can tell the canoe is rather far from the skull cliff when you look at all the wavelets which separate them (in HD). Also there is a dark grey rock on the left side which is even nearer. Thanks for your comment anyhow.
