Great idea... but, my friend, the perspective is wrong. Post office is too big. You have to imagine one of your foreground characters walking to the background and opening the Post Office door. As they move to the background they get smaller and that door

most of the buildings in the town are on raised footings due to the risk of flooding from the lake so the town folk would need to go up say 3 or 4 steps to reach the porch before entering the post office.
