So, this is the, "hey, i think my own entry was under-voted" thread? I wish I could play along, but I think all of mine were over-voted!
I rarely even look at who made what entry. I vote for entries that I like.

The ones you thought are crappy look better than the ones you think are good in my opinion.
They might not have been as much work, but the final outcome was better.

It's a combination of both IMHO.
Yer not as well known among the newest generation and
the style of chops you posted..in fact there's a third factor--
some contests have more/less god entries in them..
if there's not many exciting images in a contest- then a mediocre chop will stand out by comparison and vice versa.
Your first example of the batteries....comon guy..you should know by know that the 'rainbow' variants of a given subject usually presents a favorable
and appealing to the eye image.
Do me a favor, don't get frustrated..watch the upcoming images for something that
you can work with and do us a chop that'll blow everyone away..

I try to use most of my 25 votes for each entry. I usually vote for the ones that catch my eye or ones that have potential. I try not to show favorites, but the ones that receive the most votes do deserve it (In my opinion).
I have submitted entries that I thought deserved more votes, with other members commenting that some of my entries also deserve more votes, but honestly I use this site for fun and to advance in my chopping skills. Sure receiving many votes does help, and sometimes I wish I would get more of them, but having fun and learning a skill is more important.
Thank you for reading my post, and I am looking forward to all the votes that I will be receiving.

My post today, (the venus de milo) I put a ton of work into that. I knew it would not get votes. I was not going to enter it, even though I really liked it. My friend that I work with watched me do it and saw the process and was impressed. She said you have got to enter it. She thought it was amazing. That's because she saw the process. She knew how much time it took, So I entered it knowing that the votes would not be coming. I don't care. My point: Just because you put a lot of effort and time and love into something does not mean someone else should love it too. They don't know how you did it, they didn't see all the work you put into it. They may look at it and think it was simple to. If it is a really clever idea, it can be simple to do and get votes. You have to try and figure out what people want to see. Sometimes you do something because it made you happy and you know how hard it was and it made you proud of yourself. Then I say , Fuck the votes! Do what you like and don't worry about the votes. Sooner or later you will hit on something that really gets peoples attention, and you will say to your self "that's it!" I figured it out. Until then, Fuck the votes! Make yourself happy. If you really want votes. Try blood!
By the way, The reason I started the original thread was to honor images that I knew were done with skill and just did not get votes because of timing (late entries) or some other reason, It was not made to complain.

Some excellent comments here. I agree with Rey, & Scion. Your lipstick chop had a nice graphic image... and rainbows ARE appealing... (takes me back to the 70's... Oooohh colors).
I agree that what I produce doesn't always have the results I anticipate. My highest voted piece was one I almost didn't post. I was afraid the 'noise' would kill it.

Just goes to show... I know NOTHING. Heinlein says it best... and his words bear repeating...

Good one, Mikey!
from Geekologist.com -- words worth repeating--
Word to the wise: Make sure you check your ego at the door before posting. No matter how hard you worked on your post there is always someone out there the thinks you did it wrong. There's usually some one out there that gets more votes then you do. Just be satisfied with your work and use negative comments as a springboard to better photoshopping techniques.

Rey has hit all 43 nails square on the head there, nice one for bringing that up Rey....and @ the blood comment on that point though, I do the odd bloody entry for the exact point you bought up about 'doing what you want that makes you happy'. not because its lazy, crude or pointless like some on here think
