Several people have been mentioning their dismay with the abundance of white and light grey/gray in the new layout.

What about have a setting in our preferences that allows us to choose a favorite color scheme? StumbleUpon.com has a setup like I'm referring too. So does blogger if memory serves.

BG color effects an image...for those who take chopping serious,
the idea that you may stick a green background behind their not-natural tone image, means they're image is not going to look good to you - no matter how good it is.
Another limitation on what you can post because now you must take the variable display area into consideration.
Do people want a play site, or a professional looking site to display their work is what it comes down to.
*EDIT*...people had several months to submit ideas here.
*EDIT 2*...Can we all give the present format a "fair" try first?

Actually a white background also effects how you see the images. They will look darker than they are. The best option is a neutral gray. I work with color every day. Very specific catalogue and ad work. I deal with clients everyday that see an image on their screen with their bright backgrounds and say "it is too dark." Then they see the same image on my screen with the neutral gray background and they say it's perfect. Doh! (sorry..just my two cents)

maybe let people choose, but I am happy with this layout now, very happy actually, after initially starring open mouthed in disbelief at the change.... but that was bound to happen, I mean, this is most definately, a total overhaul.

Its now crisp, precise, and made to excentuate what we all love to do best

CHOP

so lets get down to business shall we Very Happy

I have an obvious solution to the whole 'bg color affects image' problem. The bg colors for any page showing entries (aside from the main page) would remain white or light gray, but any other pages, such as chat, forums, etc would be affected by the CSS. Obvious and simple solution.

I would prefer going to a more neutral color. I can't believe how much eye strain I feel with the BRIGHT white! I'm willing to give everything else a chance (because I am one that balks at changes).... but the white is just too much light.

Quick fix for those with Firefox. Get the "Stylish" extension from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2108/ and then you can apply a style sheet to any site you want while leaving others all alone.

Meanwhile I'm still playing with the css for PSC to see what fun I can have with it. Stay tuned.....

Well for me I cant stay here to long because it effects my eyes real bad...my problem due to the cut of my glasses...need them for close up work on cct boards...and use them when reading...if some one finds a way to change the color in IE am willing to try it out...but the white is killing me...

just wanted to say that i've been testing out the thing for Firefox you can get by following Tofu's link. First, let me tell you that you have to have at least a little knowledge of how html or css or similar codes work, otherwise you won't have any idea how to make it work. That being said, here's what i've done with it so far...

1. Blocked the ads on the site with no side effects.
2. Managed to change text, background, border colors, as well as other colors on the site.
3. gotten cool buttons and text boxes.

and more, its really cool.
