I've been having a look back through some absurd ratings on some images too. Now I don't think I'm that keen to want to rate images as well as vote, but if it's used (in its current format) to break ties, then that will be a serious flaw to the integrity of this site.

This is a perfect example of why they shouldn't be used for tie-breakers!

has a rating of 6.3 at 63 votes.

same contest 39 votes...rating 1.0

While this guy at 36 votes has a 10.0 rating

If members were supposed to rate ....
do you not then think that members would be ABLE TO SEE the the rating poll?

did anyone see the topic I raised 2 days ago ? Regarding below ?

I wondered whether there had been malicious rating. (at the time Marco also had a 1.0 as did most others)

The ratings are not yet used to break ties. If we start getting enough data that appears meaningful then we will start using it for that. If it stays inconsistant then we wont. Remember, this is a proposed solution for the nay-sayers of the current tie-breaking system, some of whom are already dismissing this just a few days in.

I say the whole thing is wack....

http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/105921/end-of-the-league.html
this is a 4 rating? Shocked come on. I could live with a 6 cause I messed up the shadows (being to dark) but a 4? and this is only one example. Either people are purposly rating people low, or the general public has no clue how much work went into these things. Unless its terrible, no one should get under a 6 out of 10, getting a 4 is like getting a D in school Laughing

I've always liked the idea of first to enter = win

Not being an advantage member yet I realise that there is no weight behind my moaning.
I moaned about the current system in a topic i raised a few weeks ago and I think that using the ratings as a tie break is just totally flawed.

Another way of settling it would be to have a tie breaking one-on-one vote off, not dismilar to the tournament system ? Rolling Eyes

I just went through the athletic contest..
Shocked if you look at the ratings...

http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/106303/votes.html
this should NOT be a 1.0

there are quite a few questionable 9 & 10's as well, but I wont single any out.
you can look for yourself.

my question is can these 'public voters' vote more than once? rather just keep hitting the 10 button 20 times or something?
cause this just doesnt seem right

I'm satisfied with the rating I've gotten, so I'll be quiet for now.

Yep... someone ran through the entries a few hours after I posted my entry (monday afternoon UK time) and gave a lot of entries a 1 rating.

you gotta look at it like grades
9 & 10 are A's
7 and 8 B's
5 & 6 are C's and so forth
if you're going to be serious about it...
I think theres some real jaded/shady voting going on
no offense scion Laughing

then there needs to be a minimum number of rates before its considered valid. say 10 (at the least)

Did I mention that this data is not being used for anything yet? It is something new. When (and if) more people start using the feature the ratings will even out. If they dont then it will go away, I really dont know how else to state it.
