I'm sick of having to press [h] all the time to reposition the image I'm working on.

I had a look in the help topics and can't find any shortcuts (quick keys) to scroll left-right-up-down).

Are there any and if not can I make custom ones ?

cheers Very Happy

i don't think you can do it the normal (keyboard shortcuts) way. but did you know you can hold the space bar down pretty much any time and drag your image around with the mouse (hold left mouse button down too). i use this all the time

it just temporarily activates the hand tool

Definitely one thing I miss with GIMP is the implementation of the wheel button on my mouse. Click it down and you can drag the pic all around. Release the wheel button and you're back to the tool you had before.

Paying attention to this Adobe? You should be. Might be time for an online petition? Mad

Anyway thanks for the spacebar tip dumbat!Laughing

Here's some shortcuts I use, ~ Hold (Ctrl) clk (N)= New document" ~ Ctrl + (C)= Copy" ~ Ctrl + (V) = Paste" ~ Ctrl Shift + (C)= Copy merged" ~ Ctrl + (Z)= Undo"... to undo many times, Ctrl Alt + (Z) ~ To merge all layers, Ctrl + (E) ~ Ctrl Shift + (I) = Inverse selection" ~ Pen tool =(P) ~ Ctrl + (T) = Transform" ~ Ctrl + (A) = Select all" ~ (D) = Black and White" ~ Ctrl + backspace = fill" ~ Ctrl clk(-)= zoom out" ~ Ctrl clk (+)= zoom in" ~ (B) = Brush" ~ Ctrl + (]) makes brush bigger" ~ Ctrl + ([) makes brush smaller" ~ these are some of the ones I use a lot, another feature that comes in handy is the (actions) you can assign an F key to do a certain function like rotate layer 90 degrees by hitting the F2 key for example" or say F5 for clouds, F7 for new layer ect..." Cool

yes, hold the spacebar and reposition. that is the handiest shortcut ever.
the ones i use the most are:
ctrl+shift+N: new layer
X : switch colors
and ALT when using a brush for eyedropper.

a couple of folks have already mentioned that you can access the hand tool by pressing down the spacebar, this works without needing to change tools.

you can also move around using Navigator.
