I was wondering if anyone might know how to perform the following task:

I have a folder with 50-100 images, all jpgs and all the same size. I would like to open every single image into 1 Photoshop file. So rather than have 50-100 open PSD files, I need just 1 file with 50-100 layers. Each layer being one of the JPG files.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Laughing thats what I was going to say... That will work, time consuming... but workable.
maybe adobe bridge can help you out? But I've never used it so..... Confused

I'd be interested to see the solution too.

Ok I figured out how you can do it!!

Using Image ready......with nothing open, go to the File menu, the select Import ....then select Folder as Frames........each image in the folder you select will come in on a seperate layer......it will also create an annimation frame too, but that doesn't matter......then you can always jump back to PS after those layers are created........pretty simple solution actually

in photoshop, you go to file + automate + contact sheet II then you can browse for folder of the pictures that you want to use...
the pictures will all be one layer, but you can cut them out pretty quick... if it helps you anymore...

TRUE...I never even thought about being able to change the rows and columns numbers to only 1 Laughing

.....make sure the Flatten All Layers box is unchecked

I made an action for you...
customthingy.zip
Go to the actions tab and LOAD it

all you have to do before running it (from the batch automation menu) is create a new document that is big enough in both dimensions for every image that you have in the folder to fit in. Or just make it 8000x8000@300dpi to be safe and save you the trouble of checking. you can always crop off the excess area afterwards.

*make sure you TICK the overide action OPEN and SAVE AS boxes.
also tick the override color profile box.

then Proceed.

It will then open all images in the chosen folder.. select ALL and cut and paste into the document you previously created.

easy peasy lemon squeezy !

Very Happy

try file/automate/contact sheet. Not sure if that's what your looking for or not but may get you there. You just have to point to the folder and not open any images.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, not to mention the action file...that was great Granulated.

I ended up trying VW's suggestion, it worked like a hammer. Even better was the ability to switch back and forth from PS and IR then export each layer as a new individual file.

I processed about 500 files in just a few hours.
