And tag onto thet the "FLASH Google ads" in forums..
the things are giving me a headache and look like %100
absolute pure total dogshit.
Everytime this place improves it is soon
beset by a whole new level of dogshit.
Personally I preferred the ads allover the place
even for advantage members that the new..supposedly advantage perk of less ads..
except that now they are bright flashy flashing flash ads
which are far worse than anything we ever had before.

You know, after thinking about this for a little, I'm not sure having a 1 pic rule would fix anything.
I logged out and went through the registration process just to see how "easy" it was to register. It's not a simple process that they are automating, that's for sure. There's even a scrambled up image to verify that it's a real person registering and not some bot program that they've created.
So, if someone is willing to go through those steps to register, it's just one more step (adding some sort of image in a contest) if that rule were added. I can even see them adding their product images in the contests!
I'm not sure what the solution is to get rid of them, but after looking into it I think the 1 image rule is not going to be enough. It's a good start, but shouldn't be the end of the discussion imho.

good point, maybe we should do a min of 5 - 10 images then?
and only allow the newbies, so-to-speak, to reply to already open threads until they have met the quota?

why not have a 12 hour waiting period till you can post a forum thread?
will a spammer hang around and wait when he could be spamming other forums?

Now don't take me wrong, I want to get rid of the spammers more than anyone here probably. But I'm not so keen on making a person have to post an entry before they can post in the forum. There have been times that people (who would not be able to chop) have come to our forum legitimately seeking help for meaningful things and this community usually has responded positively to help these people and have made for some nice threads. I would look at some other alternatives, though not excluding this one. Spam bots are preprogrammed to get through certain things. If we come up with a spam control that is unique to psc, then they may not be able to handle it. They are designed to use techniques to get by those distorted letter images and auto activate from emails, but what if we just simply asked what letter in the English alphabet comes after c? Would it be programmed to know this? But at the same time, would FootFungas be able to answer it correctly? (JK) There are a host of other ideas that could be entertained from the other thread on this, we just need to find the right one. I'm sure jmh will shed the light when he gets the time to.

Bill,
Thats why I put out the option that they could post questions on already formed topics such as help me here or there... they just wouldn't be able to post their own NEW thread. Because I agree, some people may be looking for help, but instead of creating a new thread for this purpose, they could use one already out there.
In other words They (the new persons) would have to use the ones already created until said time when we know they are sticking around the place, and not just spamming or harassing us.
I think if this were implemented, maybe we could create some "Ask the experts here" threads to help out the newbies with their questions.
This would also help with the 349573459348 Hi my name is threads created. Have one "introduce yourself here" thread.

Huh, I only counted 349573459346 "Hi my name is.." threads..
I'll have to do a recount...

I didn't see the "post only in existing topics idea" until 1 entry, that's not such a bad idea there.

I'm pretty sure that those bots or real spammers, whatever, will use the reply option in already existing threads if we restrain them to this. That wouldn't solve the problem... Bill's right. The best way to get rid of them is the "some kind of question in the registration form" solution... or else.
To illustrate what I mean, I'll show you how I could spam without even starting a thread. Ready?... here.
See that? Subtle isn't it?

yeah I get that Alex, but which would you rather have?
spam in an existing thread such as you've done? or 3-6 new threads a day that are just spam?
personally its much easier to over look one post on a thread, than to see
Click here to learn how to seduce women
Watch young teens doing it
in a brand new thread, taking up the space provided for real topics

Right...
But since we're on it, we better find a real solution to get rid of it totally.
BTW, your link didn't help me to seduce women at all.

I would love to see it gone totally. I don't see how that would be possible, but if we made it as hard as we could for them, they'll go elsewhere to spamalot.
