Not necessarily. From what I was told when I had mine out any rupture just about guarantees a big incision. A fully burst appendix means nasty toxins throughout the abdominal cavity and they have to literally hose it off. That's a BIG incision. I supposes a small rupture (i.e. slow leaker) caught early enough may be a laproscopic removal.

An inflamed appendix gets the "lap appy" treatment. Three days recovery. That's what I had. It was three holes. One at the belly button (the worst spot), one six inches below the belly button, and one off to the left side right at my waistband.

Now we'll have to get ReyRey/Katrina to tell us how big the incision was and how long the recovery will be. Anyone want to start a pool? I say 6 inch incision and 9 days recovery (5 in the hospital and 4 at home).

We should also have a pool on how long ReyRey is kept away from his computer during this ordeal. I say he's got a laptop on the table that goes over the bed 6 hours after coming out of recovery.

These days people get out of the hospital much faster..I had to stay for 3 weeks! I'm guessing he'll be out in 6 days and the cut will be like 15cm...

Hi Everyone,

It is Mrs. Rey Rey. I was able to print out the 1st 2 pages and bring it to him in the hospital. I brough our Daughter to see him. She really misses her Daddy. He is doing ok. Still no surgery yet. He still has a fever, but his white blood counts are coming down. That is a good sign. You all are great for all these wishes. Don't worry about pics. If he get the big cut I will get lots of good pics of it. Even the little one I will take pics of. I am kinda of nervous about asking the surgeon for the appendix. I don't know how they will react with that. What the hell I will give it a shot.

As for being spoiled. Forget it. I have 2 little kids and a dog to take care of. He is on his own. No just kidding. We will all take very good care of your Rey Rey. He will be chopping again real soon. Someone from his job brought him a mouse. She couldnt get the whole computer out of the building. LOL.

As for the incisions - I had mine out 15 years ago (luckily before it ruptured) and got the three small incisions, upper left, belly button and lower right belly...can barely see the scars anymore. My bet is for the little incisions - it's amazing what they can do these days!
