Yeah that's really true splodge, well said! One of the definitions of cliche is anything that has become trite or commonplace through overuse. - if your new, it hasn't been overused in your eyes.

Who hasn't used a "cliche" without even realizing it was a cliche?

I aint been able ta' bare the thought of giving a Durex condom a vote in years, no matter how good the chop is.
Always been a little embarrassed by that one, that everybody here at PSC is only familiar with the one brand of condoms
that they get free from their local health departments. It's like ya' all got some kinda veedee in common.

Spam? No, I don't seem to recall any entry (W1K, fark.com, or PSC, for that matter) in which Spam (the food brand, not the forum spam) is a common cliche in contest entries. Sure there's maybe a couple here and there, but not in considerable manner to permit it being referred to as a "cliche". Razz

WK1 drove me nuts with their stupid Cliche rule. I got kicked out temporarily on my first entry at WK1. It was a beginner contest and the source image to use was a photo of a store from the old west. I cut and pasted that store shop and placed it as the head of a Storm Trooper's body.... I titled it, "Store Trooper".

Whoa there chicky-boo! I'm not talking about having a stupid rule (one of the reasons why PSC is better than W1K). I'm simply asking what people think comes up a repeatedly in entries.

Maybe cliche' was the wrong term. How about just "recurring themes". I for one love the beaver entries. I think they're hilarious.

I think this discussion is great! Especially the links to older entries. Seems it's brought out some fond (and not so fond) memories in the old timers. Very Happy

well my entry today was dedicated to this idea Tofudisan

the cliché I don't like is the art gallery when its just that... a source stuck on the wall..

cause you did a good job and didn't just cut out the picture in the frame and put the source in. you gave it some life by cutting them up
