Hello All,
Long time, no see.
Just a quick question. I was viewing an .avi file and wanted to capture an image from the video. I paused the video, did a screen capture, pasted it into photoshop, saved it as a jpeg, but when I advanced the avi file, my photoshop image and jpeg image advanced as well. I also saved it as a gif and tiff, but it did the same thing.
Is there any way to save a screen capture from an avi into photoshop so that it does not continue to track with the original avi? I'm stumped.
(was using DivX player, on HP laptop).
Thanks in advance,
Sye

they way I usually do it is turn hardware acceleration off (display properties - advanced - troubleshoot) to take screenshots of videos.

use a player wich can make a snapshot of the avifile.
a simple screencapture does not do what you want (don't ask me why, I knew it but have forgotten why, it's some technical mumbo jumbo)
cyberlink powerdvd has such a snapshot that I'm aware off (there's a free trial out there, so that will do the job just fine, without watermarking too, as some players tend to do)

(the version I use is 6, it's 7 right now, but I guess it still has that feature)
btw, long time no see indeed

what happens if you turn the player off once you've gotten the screen capture and saved it down?

haha! Well, I've never had that problem (only the occasional occurrence where the screen capture is black instead of the paused frame.)

The captured image(s) go blank. I even cut and pasted a section of the image and it also tracked with the avi file. Weird. I'll check out that player - thanks Grefix.

Use VirtualDub which is one of the most popular open source DVD/MPEG/AVI conversion and editing tools. Go to the frame you want to capture and use "Copy Source Frame to Clipboard" from the Video pull-down menu, and from the clipboard paste in Photoshop or what have you.
