I know this really doesn't qualify as a "photoshop" question, but I'm having trouble opening up a file on my mac system. When I do the get info it says its a Unix Executable File. I know this is not true. It's got to be some kind of graphics program file. I'm just not sure how to Identify what program created it. The file came from a mac with system 9 on it. I'm currently running osx. The computer it was on wont open the file either. Is there any way to find out what kind of file this is and how I can open it?

Use a Hex editor, it may give you some clue as to what kind of file it really is. Sometimes the first few lines in the file will indicate the format or the native program. If not, copy the first dozen or so characters and paste them in a google search box.

I looked at the beginning of the file and it had MMXPR3 at the beginning, after some web research I found out that it is a quark xpress document. Applied a .qxd extension and it worked. Thanks for the input.
