It doesn't happen the other way around.

This statement is 100% me. Fought the MAC POWERS for YEARS. Last year, when faced with an upgrade to VISTA (and believe me I've NEVER trusted MicroSoftie to do an OS upgrade without LOTS of PAIN) I finally did the research and chose the MAC route. Just the lack of SECURITY WARNINGS was worth the switch. Also, though the hardware does cost more, it really really does buy you some intangible (to some) solidity and artistic ease with the MAC. NOTE: the new OS upgrade for MAC is only $129. Now, that ain't a bad price. You can almost afford to NOT steal it! Raising Brow

Badcop is right - I've NEVER heard of anyone giving MAC a chance and then a few months later going back to a PC.

(Note: I still use PC when I have to, and when I have to I pray it is XP. Every time I go on a VISTA machine it is like trying to get a box-knife into the Pentagon - security, questions, and finally No Access. Razz)

The only thing I would add is go with a MacBook and be portable. That's what i did as I updated from MiniMac 1.4g. Went to Macbook 2.2g (Dual processor as well) and now can be portable or unplug the 21inch monitor and grab and go.
I think all the Macs now are wireless for mouse and keyboard via bluetooth and airport for internet built ins.
The only thing I've been cheap about is buying a new printer that is equipt for wireless.

The only thing a PC'er might find hard to deal with is simplicity. Maybe feel cheated in doing things in 1 step instead of 5-10. but to each their own! Laughing Laughing

P.S. though BootCamp (which is FREE) will run your MAC like a PC machine, I chose the $90 Parallels. It is REALLY cool. I can boot into XP at ANY TIME and then drag files from one OS to the other with no hassle. I run two monitors, so when I need to run one of my PC only apps (like SoundForge) I just let my one monitor be a PC for a while. It is REALLY cool, and it isn't that hard to set up. And, no shit (go out and do the research yerself if you don't believe me) XP runs smoother on my MAC than it ever did in a PC box. Ain't that CRAZY? Shocked Very Happy

I have both.
I use my MAC for everything graphics, video/music.
Basically anything that makes me money or for editing my music for my band.

and my IBM is ONLY used for playing Games. Laughing

Okay - I know I'm a BIT off-topic here, but SHAMAN: your "location" under your Avatar says "Pillaging". Is that not a VERB? How can one live IN a VERB? This disturbs me. Great dread is now working its way towards my spleen and other nether-regions. I am aware that this may be an attempt at some form of oblique humor (of which I little understand) but I am concerned that perhaps there is a spelling error/typo in this case, and that with a small bit of tweaking, you'll soon have your "location" back to a NOUN (as it should be, under God's Law). Thanks for taking time to look into this matter. ReinSquire.

AND NOW, BACK TO THE THREAD NORMALLY SCHEDULED AT THIS TIME!

Micose speaks the truth.

I use one of those "colorimeter" things. (Spyder2)

Here is what is generally agreed upon as a "standard" setting for your gamma.

I'm not sure how you do the adjusting manually (without the high-tech gadgets) but I'm sure someone here knows how to do it. Maybe they will speak up from their vodka-soaked slumber? Smile

It's time for a new box and I'm thinking about a Mac this time. I have $1,200 to spend. What do you think, a Mac Mini - 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory or should I custom build a PC? I already have the OS + SW for the PC.

I'll be using it for PS, and a little bit of video editing.

I've never had a Mac but am curious after watching the Leopard demo what it would be like to go over to the Dark Side.

Thanks for any advice,
Robert

Huh? What?

Oh yeah...

Launch system preferences, that funny icon on the dock with the light switch on it....

click on the "display" icon (that screen thing on the second row)

choose the color option, then calibrate. Follow the yellow brick road.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

When I was seven I had a commodre 64! sweet:.
Then moved over to PC for many moons:.
Got into design with a PC the entire suite runs great on a pc and I built myself a smoking machine for 1,200.00 US

Then I bought a mackbook Pro ($2,500 pricey!) but woooowwwww

Night and day, the OS is simple and intuitive.
I now own an iPhone, mackbook pro, imac 24" and I just installed a Mac mini in my truck.

Needless to say Mac is the shit, but yes its not cheap.

Thank you and have a good night...
