Getting ideas for a desktop background is ok, but don't copy peoples works. Do your own, it feels much better.

Search google, and flickr... also Deviantart.com

Mate don't know if this will work for you but I like to just have an open page in ps and start playing with shapes and colour and filters and stuff, and some times it just hits me and next thing I know I got some thing to work with.

Hope that helps mate

My idea would be to choose a specific group of people you would like to work your wallpapers for, your TARGET Group. And then you do some research, what is the interest of people who fall in that target group.

It will be easier, when you have the ages specified. Because while Einstein and Space may be somewhat universal, not every four year old would grasp the concept of philosophy, so creating a series of desktops that relate to - say Schopenhauer, Leibniz, Spinoza, Berkeley, Kierkegaard, Russell, Socrates and what have you, would not fall in their reference guide.

But it might in some Uni students perception of what a good desktop or wallpaper looks like.

It's all in the research, mind you. Because creating a Spinoza themed wallpaper or desktop, would mean you first need to find out (or know more) about that man and his lifetime......

Just a idea. But that is what you were asking for. Right?

This is my favorite desktop background.
I use it for 6 years now. I can't get bored! Seriously!

Yeah! I don't think it's really helpful. Laughing
But the idea can be very simple... Smile

I'd maybe stay away from a really cluttered design. I know that I like to be able to see the files on my desktop (there are many!)...no time for housekeeping when chopping Very Happy

Mate try making a menu for your desktop logos that is hidden and on one side that way you can have a great image on your screen with out icons and stuff space. Looks good and if ya like me I have one menu for PS stuff, left-hand side and one menu for other stuff right hand side.

Ok just create a quick menu from the menu tool bar and right click on it and move it to where ever you want, left side or right side.

Then just right click on your desktop and select arrange icons by and select dont show on desktop.

Its easy mate

If you're willing to not use photoshop and try gimp you can make some awesome flame fractals for your background.
