I have the opportunity to take a graphic design course and they want to see a portfolio of stuff I've done. Now, before you start laughing, this is a second career initiative started by the provincial government where I live in an effort to get people who are laid off (manufacturing is dying here) some training to get into a meaningful career. It's not like I'll be competing for a spot with hotshot young designers with killer portfolios. I think they just want to see that they're going to be spending "their" (
) money on someone who has a bit of an understanding of the subject and is going to stick with it. It's a great opportunity for me to get out of the dead-end world of factories and do this stuff full time. I really want this.
I have around a dozen or so entries here that I'm quite proud of and want to use in my portfolio. I was thinking I could (in Illustrator) place the image on a page, with the source image at the top of the page (to give them an idea of where I went creatively).
Is this an acceptable way to build a portfolio or is there a more accepted/professional way of doing it. I don't want to look like a Wally.
Sorry for such a long post, but hopefully one of you in the business can point me in the right direction.
Cheers.
