Inspired by Paul's "Talk about Music" thread, I thought about a movie thread.
Hopefully it can become useful and interesting.
You can use it for positive or negative comments about any movies, new or old classics, cheapest crappy film you ever saw... telling us which movie you recommend or not... making your own film critic.

_________________________________________________________

I'll go first...
I'll talk about the best movie I saw earlier this year, the best I saw for years... and by far.
Du levande (You, the Living) by the great Swedish film director Roy Andersson.
It's a real masterpiece. Smart, funny, very artistic...
I prefer to give you some links to give you a clear description from the official site,
and some extracts from YouTube.

I still can't find the dvd on internet... maybe soon... Confused

Last movie seen: Dark City (1998)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118929/

It's a damn good movie.

Just seen Vantage Point, which was a pretty predictable but entertaining watch.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443274/

Also caught recently:

Cleaner, The man that for me can do no wrong Samuel L. Jackson steps into a fairly gritty role as a crime scene cleaner. Has a few nice twists in it this Smile

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0896798/

10,000 BC, which was ok, but I felt a little like someone robbed me of 2 hours of my life Laughing

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443649/

Untraceable, This was quite clever, but again had gaping obvious holes in it, but overall had some good moments

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0880578/

Batman Dark Knight: Ledgers Joker is damn twisted, overall pretty damn fine, Christian Bale is one of my favourite actors so this ran pretty smoothly for me, very good.

Wall - E, Looks pretty as to be expected from Pixar, and manages to pull your emotions in several directions even though hardly a word is spoken and the main cast are a bunch of nice looking polygonal robots Laughing Jolly good fun what Razz

Twelve Monkeys (1995)

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120669/

Good topic.

some of my faves:

Wings Of Desire (Wim Wenders)(sadly ...Solveig Donmartin died last year....way too young Sad)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LyANVY1fwg&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtSJXiBgYzQ&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4HNmR9OUjE&feature=related
Blade Runner (Ridley Scott)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOphFl88U-g&feature=related
The Final Cut is definitely the best version IMO. The narration of the theatrical release was never very fitting and tended to "gum up" the emotional content.
Chungking Express (Kar Wai Wong) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYS9Cj96C3U&feature=related I'm a huge fan of his works...most of em, anyway. This is close second behind
In The Mood For Love Very elegant film. Great score too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlXX9gVB7ak

That looks Great!!!
I wish I woulda known of it earlier, cause it came to a film festival near where I live , earlier this year. I'll definitely be look'n for that on DVD.....hopefully this year sometime for that release.....probably next year, tho I suppose.....US release anyway.

From what I've seen of the clips, it looks to have a very unconventional style. Are all the scenes filmed with a "static" camera?

City of the lost Children eh? Well haven't seen it (only seen Amelie), but apparently peeps say Dark City is a recommendation for those who have watched that film and vice versa.

If you like Memento, you should watch Irréversible (2002)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290673/

Though it's not for the faint of heart as it is pretty damn disturbing.
