okay so I've just started using photoshopCS3 and I cannot find the tool where you cut a shape out of a picture completely and move that shape that has been cut into another picture thats open on photoshop. And I don't mean the quick selection tool.

pleaseee help me?

there's many ways to "extract" an image from the background. My favorite way to go is this: Go to path, new path, grab your pen tool and zoom in to make a clean cut. Once that's done, select "make selection" (in the paths pallette & you'll see the marching ants). Then you can cut it from the background or copy it.

it's a palette, like Layers, History, Brushes, etc. Go to Window and click on Paths

You can use the simple lasso to go around the image you want and hit copy and then switch to the other screen and hit paste.To clean it up use the square circle box at bottom of layers screen and it will set you up to mask. Which means using black paint around the image to edit away stuff. If you goof switch to white and go back over it and there it is again.

You know what I hate about the lasso tool? Start using it and walk away from your computer for a few moments....or accidentally double click. Or...or accidentally have feather on. eeesh. Wink

quick mask for beginners is wonderful. Same as using the lasso then masking after the move except your masking as the selection itself. And you can mask soft or hard depending on what your selecting.
