Simila-ish kinda thing to Reys. Trick is to get up close, look at it front on and central. Try and adjust your stare so its as though you are focusing on an object in the distance.

I see it. But I always see them in reverse. If it sticks out, I see it caving in. Does anybody else see it like that??
To me, this says splodge but it is pushed in not beveled out.

Splodge..you rock!! Wherever you are.
I keep checking the obituaries to see if my name is there. If it's not, then I figure I'm ok.

Not being a smart aleck here but do you happen to be partially color blind? I wonder if that could cause the reversal you see?

There are two ways to look at these. The right way is to look through the image like you are looking out at a far object or horizon, the stereogram merges an pops out. You can also cross your eyes like you are trying to look at a fly on your nose. So now your left eye is looking at the right part of the image and your right eye is looking off to the left which combines the stereogram and produces a hollow image that goes into the picture instead of out.
I made one of these in a contest once. There are programs that will convert an image to a stereogram. You can have it make a noise particle stereogram, or you can use any texture or picture to create the pattern.
The actual shape, however, is a 3d image defined by shades of gray which tells the program what part pops out and what stays in the background. I got a headache making mine. http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/116272/dolphin-in-3d.html
