(psd at box.net was updated to correct a layer mix up)

I think that this looks the most authentic of all the adjustments so far... Good job, Anna!

Thanks, Eve - and good observation about the shadow.

I used a bit of patch tool and some clone, what do you think?

Thanks for the chance to practice, Dechene! Cool

This is what I got using a couple of techniques from you guys.

I'm pretty happy with it cos it was relatively quick & painless to do, still retains all the features (as in the make-up isn't washed out or overly coloured), and I think I'll be able to set it up as an action which will make it completely painless to do.

I duped the original, then used a light gaussian blur,
Set that layer to darken @ 80%,
Used the Color Range tool to select the very brightest whites on her skin from the original layer,
Created a new layer on top of all & filled that selection with a sample of a light colour (not white) from her skin,
then just dropped the opacity of that layer to 70%,

Man, photoshop just has too many ways of doing things, I'm going back to MS Paint!

I recommend Katrin Eismann's 'Restoration & Retouching' book to anyone who hasn't read it yet, it has a lot of great techniques in it. It goes over: essentials, tone/contrast, exposure correction, color, restoring/repairing/rebuilding techniques, and portrait/glamor retouching. It is clearly written and has online photos for the exercises shown in the book.

Here is my effort at retouching the photo:
