i could have told you this usually works with photoshop.
there are a lot of programs this will work with.. it usually has to do with if it was installed in the default locations. the executables usually know where to look so do the dll's and what not.
if it dont work, in a lot of cases, you can go to system32/reserv32.exe and drag the executable and/or a couple of the dll files onto that file and it will register those files on that drive in their location in the registry and resurrect that program to funtionality.
I used to run a main network drive for multiple systems in that very manner. I have built and ran some rather advanced setups in my 22 years of computers.
BTW this is on windows... I know nothing about how mac file systems work
