I just had an idea for another H2H type contest. Note this is NOT a suggestion to replace the H2H. H2H is the grandaddy of all contests around here and should continue forever. Sorry to bring this up during the current H2H but if I don't type it now I'll forget it by the time H2H is over.
Anyway the thought is that you start with any even number of players (has to be an even number though). Players are randomly matched up with each other for each round. So the winners from round 1 go "back into the pot" to be randomly paired again. This goes until the eventual 1-on-1 match-up for tourney winner.
Also, as a sort of relief valve, when the number of round winners results in an odd number of contestants (i.e. 3, 5, 7, etc) the previous round loser with the highest number of votes becomes the wild-card to round out the entrants to an even number. As is the PSC way ties would be determined by who posted first. Make sense?
For example start with 12 contestants and 6 winners advance to round 2. Round 2 would have 3 winners going into round 3 along with the top vote getting loser from round 2. Round four would then have 2 winners going head-to-head for the title.
