A-school is where you go to learn how to do the job you'll be doing in the Navy. There are usually even more schools after that, depending on what your rate is. My rate is Electronics Technician. It was my second pick, as my first choice was full for the year, sadly. The school is about 240 days long. I'll be here in Great Lakes, Illinois for the duration.
