Okay. Could be that a recent MS "update" helpfully borked it for you.

Just to be sure; the camera is getting recognized on other computers correct? Next question is what make/model of computer? You may need to download a USB update for the motherboard. Brad also has a good suggestion about ensuring the drivers are up-to-date for the camera.

Of course this could all be a sign from above that you're supposed to buy a brand spanking new digital SLR.

buying a new one is not an option..were rebuilding our house and that's not cheap and my camera is only a year old :p
i think it's indeed an update from ms...but a restore point didn't do anything so..i guess i'll have to try and try and try..and then bang my pc against the floor or wall..that wil help for sure

Everyone else gave all the advice I was going to offer... so... get a 'Mac.

i've try'd everything here said ..but nothing does the trick,
i've been searching the net bout answers..and it seems lot's of people have this problem with canon camera's and servicepack 3...the advice they getting is to use a card reader..maybe that's an option..a don't know yet..

I never use any of the drivers. I open as a flash drive and just move the files over then delete.

This should fix it. If not I included some articles with trouble shooting that helped a lot of people fix their sp3 no usb support. It happens to many people, you are not the first. Also is the camera turned on to usb mode? I figure it is, just asking. GL hope you get it figured out.



Remove and reinstall all USB controllers
To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
Click the Hardware tab.
Click the Device Manager button.
Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.
Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
