I need to re-size a lot of pictures for the web. I'm sure there's probably an action/script to accomplish this but I wanted to check with you guys first. My pics are portrait AND landscape oriented and I need to know how to size them smaller while keeping the aspect ratio correct for both.

Photoshop CS2 and later has a built-in script that can process many pictures at once.

If you have decided on a fixed size for the web (e.g. 600 pixels max), copy all your images in one folder (e.g. Originals), make a second folder for the resized images (e.g. Resized)

File --> Scripts --> Image Processor

1. Select images to process
- Select Folder (--> Originals)

2. Select location to save processed images (--> Resized)

3. File Type
- save as JPEG
- Quality (e.g. 9, depends on your file size/load time vs quality requirements)
- Resize to Fit:
W: 600, H: 600 (it will keep the proportions and orientation - a 1200w x 900h image will be resized to 600w x 450h, a 900w x 1200h will be resized to 450w x 600h)

Optionally, if you prefer all images to be 600px wide (e.g. using the example above, 600 x 450 and 600 x 800,) set W: 600, H: 10000 (some larger than life number for height)

- Convert profile to sRGB - turn this setting on

4. Click Run and go make yourself a sandwich, it may take a while for PS to open each image from the Originals folder, resize and save in the Rezised folder.

I personally prefer doing the same operation with XnView (freeware), it is a good image viewer and has many Batch Processing options.

Remember if you have a License or terms and conditions you don't need to watermark the whole image.

IrfanView is another good batch processor.

It's what I use. Works perfect...
