Tell Daddy that's what I've been doing and they all still come back at over 512. @ ten frames i should easily be able to lower them. Save for web says 256 or 340 or whatever and they save to file WAY over that. 526 usually.

Or just post small "hint" version and link in the comment to the real stuff (somewhere).

I always set it to 500k for save for web because mine saves higher than I set.

Try combining everything you can, and leaving only what is going to move in layers.
Brighter colors will cost KB. Too many layers, masks or effects will also hurt your KB total.

All else fails try shrinking your gif onto a white background thats 500 x 350

I agree try to get rid of floating stuff layers and such that's not needed, single background, and you still may need to toss frames to get count down enough. That's why I've been recording it larger and longer on photo bucket and including that address when I have to edit too much to fit here, that it changes the quality.

Otherwise welcome to the Gif club buckeroo! Laughing Laughing Laughing

No... welcome to the dumb ass club you mean. I was tring to open the chrome file which I don't even know why it exists, unless it's for previews. Then I opened another folder and there was every damn optimized file I had tried.
Lesson learned.
It seems political correctness has removed the emoticon with the dunce cap. If it was still there , it would go right here Arrow (DUNCE)
Thanks guys.

I think we need to start thinking about changing the name of this place to

GifContest.com

Maybe we'll get more participation!

Im one of the bunch. Laughing
I suddenly found out how to make these GIFs and then I thought it was funny.
So I started to make more. It is so many possibilities with an GIF (if you got an ok idea), but Im the first to admit that there is lot of technical stuff I don't know about yet. Working on it. Very Happy Shocked

Don't get me wrong. I love gifs. In fact I was in the process of doing a few for here as well.

Geir just beat me too it Laughing

Gifs are great.
As long as they have a point.
I don't like voting for something just because it moves.
Gotta have some sort of story or interesting thing happening to grab my attention.
ones that loop well are always a plus.

Higher resolution w/o having me leave the website, (and thus breaking the 'rules') is a must.

I know theres a lot of work to make a good gif.
I think it takes some skill and thought.

Static images are way more difficult though.
They need to tell the story in one frame rather than 5-20.

Well, I just found out that "flattening frames into layers" allows you to crop out any gunk outside the image area and that helped a lot. I also found the little drop down menu that lets you set the size you're trying to optimize to.
So many little boxes and buttons. I wonder who could possibly use all that's available. Or even know what it is.
