1. select all black on the car
2. on a new layer fill with like a brown or neutral color
3. set this layer to screen
3. Add a hue/saturation and click colorize
4. then slide away with all the slidy thingys
5. If you are not getting the color you want try changing the fill on step 2 to another color also try changing layer style of the fill layer.

Find a shirt in the color you want. Sample the colors and make a gradient. Click "new" so it saves. Sample the darkest color, the pure color, and the lightest. This will be adjusted later.

Make a gradient map adjustment layer.

Play with the paint cans and colors until it looks good. My gradient ended up like this.

The paint cans are jammed together because it was a black shirt and all the tones were pretty close.
You can pick better colors. I did not get too crazy with it.
When you are done you can add another layer. Fill it with the color you want and set it to soft light. Magic

To Jerryhami and Ray,

Thanks for the tip. Seems real simple but I didn't know how to do that. Now I do.

Thanks again.

Be safe,
Carmine

Here's an idea. Find a picture of a different colored car, a blue one, then change the colors. Photoshop the bumper stickers and license plates to make it look like your car.

I often use silver to lighten black. This is really interesting! However, though a lot of people will take such things for granted, a ton of work goes into making car paint including car paint testing.

Hi All. This sounded interesting. I thought of trying. Here is the chop. Of Course I didn't do it very meticulously.Smile I duplicated the later and coloured it (color,hue-sat etcand cut off the wheel, shadow etc portions from the coloured layer and merged with the original layer. Does it pass the test? Smile

the main body of the car is nice ...imo however the windows shouldn´t be blue like the car though, keep the rear brake lights red,the exhausts at the back greyish and maybe the car logo at the very back the original black also.My two cents worth Wink

You´re welcome... As for the rear window,f you notice it is divided in two halves. The divider is metallic and should be blue but the left area is glass.
