i would say that anonymous voting is fairer, but i can imagine that if the step to ... nonymous ? ... voting where you know who the chop is from has been made in the past, there has to be a (good?) reason.
so what was the main reason for the switch in the past?

I used to like Anonymous posting. And since PSC hosts your pic, you can't right click/properties and see the familiar web server anymore.
I wish it would come back...
I really think some votes are cast because of the posters name. (popularity votes)

AHA,.. the ever returning topic is here again,... people are never satisfied. The reason JMH changed it back to the current situation is because people were asked about it,... similar like this topic.
Why change it back and forth? Just like the GREAT REINMAN once sung,... "shut the F**K up and CHOP!"

woohoo i lured chrispis out of his lair
the fact is that before even if the author's name was invisible one could know who made the pic in most of the cases because the pics were hosted on the same servers every contest. Now that's impossible and true anonymous is feasable, i gave non anonymous a shot and i didn't like it. Nothing wrong in changing imo.

Chris is right that this subject has been flogged to death before.
However, supa is also right that even when we had "anonymous" posting it wasn't really as anonymous as it could have been, hence the title of this thread isn't really accurate: it wouldnt' be going "back" to anonymous posting, it would be implementing it properly for the first time...

I see nothing wrong with going back. Unless people think they won't get votes if it's anon.

Hey a very great idea "voting anonymous" cause some people feeling undervoted. For diffrent reasons (inclusive myself sometimes) ;Posting many entries. frustrating comment, nepotism, etc, etc,. So my question is. What is gonna happen with the results, and when cant we vote anymore for the vote as anonymous voting vote vote.....Lol
Gtz senzo.

I also think that anonymous posting is fairer as long as the posts are really anonymous.
The fact that the server identity now can no longer be used to identify the poster eliminates one of the biasing variables. I'm not certain how many other variables could be used to discover who is posting, but the most obvious one is personal contact, from poster to poster, identifying their entries for any given contest. So my hunch is that there will probably never be pure anonymous posting. However, an anonymous posting protocol established under the current server setup would appear to be a lot purer than the previously implemented anonymous posting protocol.
My second guess is that the voting patterns for the best pictures will not change very much under an anonymous posting protocol. In my view, great pictures will most always receive an abundance of votes rewarding the, ingenuity, skill and artistic competence of the artist. However there will probably be some work that might go unrecognized under the current protocol that will receieve a fairer share of the voters attention under an anonymous posting protocol.
One other variable that could potentially impact a voter's decision is the non-anonymous posting of the voter's names. On occasion, if I see a picture that somehow doesn't fit with how I determine what is artistically credible and what isn't, and if prominent and skilled artists have voted for it, I take a second look to see what I may have missed. However, my guess is that every skilled artist does not always vote for a picture because they think it has artistic credibility, so I could be allowing my
decision to vote for a project to unfairly depend on" who" has already voted for it.
Finally, I am Ok with either protocol because, in general, I think that the best pictures will most always receive the fairest and greatest number of votes under either voting system.
