Yep - big shock here. We got used to random bombings in the 80s and early 90s from the IRA, but this is something on a different scale, cos the IRA usually used to go for just one big bombing on a single target (eg, Harrods, Canary Wharf, etc).
Pretty much all public transport in the centre of London is closed and people are being told not to leave their buildings, whether at work or at home. I was on the tube (underground train) on the way into work at about 9am when we all got evacuated out, so I walked the rest of the way to work... but the challenge now will be getting home again later!
I nipped out for lunch (I work in the centre within walking distance of several of the blasts) and the street was deserted of buses and private traffic, but loads of people on the pavements, and a whole convoy of ambulances were driving back from one of the scenes.
Latest we've heard:
- Four confirmed blasts, 3 at underground stations and 1 on a bus.
- 20 confirmed dead, many injured. (But one train was hit in a tunnel at King's Cross, so the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade are anticipating the death toll to rise)
Blasts occurred:
- Between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street tube stations
- Between Russell Square and King's Cross tube stations
- At Edgware Road tube station
- On bus at Tavistock Square
According to the BBC, an alleged admission of responsibility has appeared on a website from an organisation calling itself the "Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda of Jihad Organisation in Europe."

Heard about this on the radio when I woke up this morning. Horrible.

No probs - thanks for starting this thread to let people know, marco - especially for those abroad who might have friends/family living here or on holiday in London.
Sadly, like I said, we had a feeling it was coming. There's been NYC, Bali, Madrid... London was top of the target "to do" list for these sickos...

Yes! And even more so, I went for a job interview round there a couple of months ago. I could have been working literally round the corner from where that bus blew up if I'd got the job...

Wow. Don't know what to say (which is weird for me). I'll send prayers instead of talk.
