Hey there...

I Need HELP!

I've got an image that im having put onto a T-shirt. Its a 4 color image and its got some black mixed into it as well as around the edges. Its going on a black shirt and the printer wants the black taken out altogether while maintaining the original layers of the artwork.

Any suggestions? Is it just a matter of selecting the black areas and deleting them from each layer? Is there a clean way of doing it without using the magic wand?

Im drawing a blank!
Thanks!

(Image on shirt-)

I'm not sure why it'd be a problem to have a little black ink on a black shirt. Must be a silkscreen thing.

Try select -> color range, with black as your foreground color.

you can trash the black channel from your file (working in CMYK), and just keep the other three active. Maybe this will work. I'm not sure, though. (Then, you're left with a 3 colour job + white)

Are inks used for T-shirts transparent? If they are, you might have to create a white base for your artwork so your colours come out. If they aren't, you might not get the subtleties (sp?) of the colours you expect from your file. Either way, talk to the printer.

Sorry, dewking! Confused

I'll bet the shirt would work as a two-color job--white and red.

What kind of transfer are you going to print this on? You will need the type specifically for colored Ts, as the color of the t will bleed through on your white areas of your art work. Of course, maybe you know this already.

Edit: I reread and see someone else is doing this for you. Sorry.

of corse you can delete the black of the image. but what will stay? the red and the white? what is white for a printing machine ... no colour! i think you should use a special t-shirt printing system which can handle with white (some sort of rubber is melted on the shirt). maybe its needful to inverse black and white areas ... but i dont know at all. and what about the grey ... its white with black as all of us know ... seems like a mission impossible for a standard-printer.

The only printer I would let do a job like this...(subtle full color on black)...is one who, when you show him the artwork, says, "Sure thing, no problem...pick 'em up in a week." If he needs, or even wants you do the seps, go to the next guy. If you are trying to save money by handling the art yourself....let it go. Not worth it.

I'm not sure if this is what you need but try selecting the white with Color Range and fill that selection with white on a new layer. Do the same with the other colors. Hope this helps.
