Doug, if the parents aren't willing to spring for the full $30, perhaps you could get them to try it out for $4 for a month. Four bucks is pretty minimal. And once they see what a terrific artist their son can be when he has a full week to work on a photo, perhaps they'll cave in and, with a swell of parental pride, kick in for the rest of the year. Or at least change their mind about that whole boot camp thing.

I say you drag your butt out of bed in time to give yourself an hour to work on a chop...do your best in an hour if your any good you'll get votes...if your not you can only get better. Then you could alway hang out long side a freeway with a sigh saying, "I'll work for advantage cash". Either way good luck.
