Cpt.Smitty, The steam seems too close in hue with the brick wall, JMO. It almost looks like cracks rather than rising moisture. The shadowing is great though. Maybe you could add more curvature on the numbers to match the curvature of the word Poison, also the beaker looks a little off center or floating above the hot plate. Otherwise, very nice work!

Tarmac i got a few comments or pms about the base and the beaker looking off center and looking back i see exactly what you mean.

What i was going for was to make it look like they were one piece. The black rubber bottom sloping up into the glass and an angle. But all it looks like is an off center base.
Any ideas on how i could have made it look like one, angled, connected piece?

numbers on beaker look generic, and should typically include measuring units - look at real examples

The way the beaker sits on the black base (or whatever it is) is odd - look at real photos how the glass curves underneath

If it were meant to be sitting on a hot plate, there's probably more parts to it than just a black cylinder

It is not clear from the picture if this thing sits on the floor or on a counter - in either case the black strip at the wall looks odd (not to mention it's not in perspective). In a lab setting, you would probably have a wall base at the floor and a splash (vertical return) at the counter/workbench.

The smoke/fumes also look generic

thanks vokaris

smoke, backsplash, and numbers i completely agree with you on.

the black thing was supposed to look like more of a base than a hotplate,

something along these lines....

ok then, look closely at how the glass tube enters the base and try to fake something similar

if all else fails, build yourself a quick 3D reference model - if you set it up with proper materials and lighting, you may realize that sometimes the advice you may be getting here on PSC is pretty much baloney
