I'm not entirely convinced that this tapering thing isn't an optical illusion. Of course Venice is sinking, so....

I would like to know if the buildings are supposed to be vertical of tapered
bigbuck bigbuck
If viewing a building square on like this, vertical lines should share the same vanishing point and horizontal lines should appear horizontal. If they're tapered lilke Vok suggests, then their floors are also sloping toward the outside.

vokaris, they are vertically tapered, just as the original. I just duplicated one side, and added the bridge of sighs... cleaned it up and water, etc. I think I should have added more of the bottom of the bridge showing...just a tad.

Vertically tapered? The original is vertical. It appears tapered because it vanishes to a vanishing point. That's called perspective.

the lower windows are out of porportion just a tad and they appear bowed. :D

The buildings in the source photo are vertical as most buildings are. They look tapered due to perspective - all verticals merge in one imaginary vanishing point
vokaris vokaris
The perspective applies to the walls between the buildings too - see similar twin towers photos

way off

I asked if the buildings were tapered because they look like Temple Gates in Ancient Egypt due to a) the angles of the walls, and b) the angled reflection in the water
