Mostly this was an exercise in clean-up and rebuilding. Had to rebuild the stone, the guard shack and the guard's uniform where the tourist overlapped. Much more went into this than meets the eye. ;-)

Ahhh tadams! Bowls would have been a great idea. I coulda put them by the wall (since they wouldn't show by the feet). These are the details I need to watch for from now on... :-)

Wonderful! I think what's bugging you IS the shadow. Since a dog's head sticks out much further than a man's, there should be some additional shadow for the snout on the shirt collar area.
